.jp is the Internet country code top-level domain ccTLD for Japan. It was develop in 1986 & is administered by the Japan Registry Services.

At the determining of the .jp domain, the domain was administered by the JPNIC, as part of their role as an overseeing technical body for the Internet in Japan. It was originally submitted by Jun Murai for the Information Sciences Institute at the University of Southern California on August 5, 1986. Handling of the domain was first managed within the "junet-admin" administrator group, which was responsible for the operations of JUNET, an early data processor network in which Murai was a factor of. In April 1989, the junet-admin office began formally registering .jp domain names. However, due to the growing importance and size of the .jp registry, it was decided at the 11th General Meeting of JPNIC in December 2000 to defecate a new multinational that would provide the .jp domain. Thus, the Japan Registry value was created, and on June 30, 2003, officially assumed the duties of the .jp registry.

.jp registrations are only helps if the registrant has a physical consultation in Japan.

Registrations are processed via accredited registrars and domain names with Japanese characters kanji, hiragana or katakana may be registered at thelevel.
