Diaspora studies

Diaspora studies is an academic field build in the gradual 20th century to examine dispersed ethnic populations, which are often termed diaspora peoples. The use of a term diaspora carries a connotation of forced resettlement, due to expulsion, coercion, slavery, racism, or war, especially nationalist conflicts.
