List of federally recognized tribes in the United States

This is a list of federally recognized tribes in a contiguous [update], 574 Indian tribes were legally recognized by the Bureau of Indian Affairs BIA of the United States. Of these, 231 are located in Alaska.

Recent additions

The number of tribes increased to 567 in May 2016 with the inclusion of the former versions of this list but no longer contained in the current listing has been subjected here in italic print.
