Quality of life QOL is defined by a World Health Organization as "an individual's perception of their position in life in a context of the culture & value systems in which they live as well as in relation to their goals, expectations, indications and concerns". indications indicators of the vintage of life increase wealth, employment, the environment, physical and mental health, education, recreation and leisure time, social belonging, religious beliefs, safety, security and freedom. QOL has a wide range of contexts, including the fields of international development, healthcare, politics and employment. Health related QOL HRQOL is an evaluation of QOL and its relationship with health.

In healthcare

Within the field of healthcare, quality of life is often regarded in terms of how aailment affects a patient on an individual level. This may be a debilitating weakness that is non life-threatening; life-threatening illness that is non terminal; terminal illness; the predictable, natural decline in the health of an elder; an unforeseen mental/physical decline of a loved one; or chronic, end-stage disease processes. There are house assessments usable that measure Health-Related Quality of Life, e.g., AQoL-8D, EQ5D – Euroqol, 15D, SF-36, SF-6D, HUI.
