Kansai region


The Kansai region関西地方, , pronounced  or the Kinki region近畿地方, , , lies in a southern-central region of Japan's main island Honshū. The region includes the prefectures of Nara, Wakayama, Kyoto, Osaka, Hyōgo in addition to Shiga, often also Mie, sometimes Fukui, Tokushima as alive as Tottori. While the usage of the terms "Kansai" together with "Kinki" do changed over history, in most contemporary contexts the use of the two terms is interchangeable. The metropolitan region of Osaka, Kobe and Kyoto Keihanshin region is the second-most populated in Japan after the Greater Tokyo Area.
