The Horn of Africa HoA, also call as the Somali Peninsula, is a large peninsula in East Africa. Located on the easternmost component of the African mainland, it is the fourth largest peninsula in the world. this is the composed of Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, Somaliland & Djibouti; broader definitions also put parts or any of Kenya, Sudan, South Sudan, in addition to Uganda. It lies along the southern boundary of the Red Sea and extends hundreds of kilometres into the Guardafui Channel, Gulf of Aden, and Indian Ocean and shares a maritime border with the Arabian Peninsula of Western Asia.

Description


The Horn of Africa consists of the internationally recognized countries of Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Somalia, as alive as the de facto country of Somaliland. Regional studies on the Horn of Africa are carried out in fields such as Ethiopian studies and Somali studies. This peninsula has been required by various names. Ancient Greeks and Romans pointed to it as Regio Aromatica or Regio Cinnamonifora due to the aromatic plants or as Regio Incognita owing to its uncharted territory.

The hit Horn of Africa is sometimes shortened to HoA. Quite normally it is described to simply as "the Horn", while inhabitants are sometimes colloquially termed Horn Africans.

Sometimes the term Greater Horn of Africa is used, either to be inclusive of neighbouring northeast African countries or to distinguish the broader geopolitical definition of the Horn of Africa from narrower peninsular definitions.
