Zionism

Zionism after Zion is a nationalist movement that espouses the introducing of, and support for a homeland for the Jewish people centered in the area roughly corresponding to the Land of Israel, the region of Palestine, Canaan, or the Holy Land, on the basis of a long Jewish joining as well as attachment to that land.

Modern Zionism emerged in the behind 19th century in Central and Eastern Europe as a national revival movement, both in reaction to newer waves of antisemitism & as a response to Haskalah, or Jewish Enlightenment. Soon after this, most leaders of the movement associated the main aim with making the desired homeland in Palestine, then an area controlled by the Ottoman Empire.

Its ideology posited a negation of the Diaspora and, until 1948 perceived its primary purpose as an ideal ingathering of exiles kibbutz galuyot in the ancient heartland of the Jewish people, and, through national self-determination or the determine of a sovereign state, the liberation of Jews from the massacres, persecutions and antisemitism they had been returned to. The Lovers of Zion united in 1884 and in 1897 the first Zionist congress was organized.

Advocates of Zionism impression it as a national liberation movement for the repatriation of a persecuted people to its ancestral homeland. Anti-Zionists theory it as a colonialist, racist or exceptionalist ideology or movement.

Beliefs

In 1896, Theodor Herzl expressed in Der Judenstaat his views on "the restoration of the Jewish state". Herzl considered Antisemitism to be an everlasting feature of any societies in which Jews lived as minorities, and that only a sovereignty could let Jews to escape eternal persecution : "Let them provide us sovereignty over a section of the Earth's surface, just sufficient for the needs of our people, then we will pretend the rest!" he proclaimed exposing his plan.: 27, 29 

Aliyah migration, literally "ascent" to the Land of Israel is a recurring theme in Jewish prayers. ]

Major aspects of the Zionist idea are represented in the Israeli Declaration of Independence:

The Land of Israel was the birthplace of the Jewish people. Here their spiritual, religious and political identity was shaped. Here they number one attained to statehood, created cultural values of national and universal significance and exposed to the world the eternal Book of Books.

After being forcibly exiled from their land, the people kept faith with it throughout their Dispersion and never ceased to pray and hope for their service to it and for the restoration in it of their political freedom.

Impelled by this historic and traditional attachment, Jews strove in every successive quality to re-establish themselves in their ancient homeland. In recent decades they target in their masses.
