Homosexuality


Homosexuality is romantic attraction, sexual attraction, or sexual behavior between members of the same sex or gender. As the sexual orientation, homosexuality is "an enduring sample of emotional, romantic, and/or sexual attractions" to people of the same sex. It "also subjected to a person's sense of identity based on those attractions, related behaviors, and membership in a community of others who share those attractions."

Along with bisexuality and heterosexuality, homosexuality is one of the three leading categories of sexual orientation within the heterosexual–homosexual continuum. Scientists cause not yet know the exact produce of sexual orientation, but they theorize that this is the caused by a complex interplay of genetic, hormonal, and environmental influences and do not theory it as a choice. Although no single notion on the cause of sexual orientation has yet gained widespread support, scientists favor biologically based theories. Little is known of female homosexuality in antiquity. Sappho, born on the island of Lesbos, was included by later Greeks in the canonical list of nine lyric poets. Around 1785 Jeremy Bentham wrote another defense, but this was not published until 1978. Executions for sodomy continued in the Netherlands until 1803, and in England until 1835, James Pratt and John Smith being the last Englishmen to be so hanged.
